QR2id Account Security Advice

Amtac is committed to assisting you with protecting your privacy. We take your privacy extremely seriously and want to ensure that we deliver a service that you can continue to trust unreservedly (click here to review our Privacy Policy).

Your QR2id Account lets you configure information that may be displayed whenever someone scans one of your QR2id Codes, or enters the Serial Number via this website. You can also add information that is hidden from scanning and can only be accessed by you when you log into your QR2id Account. For example, you might put a QR2id Code on your laptop computer and for convenience take the opportunity to also record the Serial Number and warranty details in your QR2id Account. In adding this information you can simply choose for it to be hidden, and it will not be displayed when the QR2id Code is scanned.

When you first receive your QR2id Codes they are set by default to protect your privacy completely. i.e. no information is displayed other than a form that allows the person finding your QR2id Code to contact you via email.

By logging into your QR2id Account you can add information, images, and even upload files that relate to each of your QR2id Codes. You have the option of making any of this information available to a person scanning your QR2id Code, but we urge caution in what you choose to display.

For example, you may add the registration number/description of your car to make it easier to remember which QR2id Code is attached to the keys, but it would be inappropriate to display this information when the QR2id Code is scanned. In this case you would set the identifying information as "Hidden", and only you will be able to see it when you are logged in. However, if you have a QR2id Code attached to your dog's collar, you may like to display his/her name, a photo and any medical conditions of which the finder may need to be aware (click here to see an example).

Each scan or decoding of your QR2id Codes is logged and you can see this information when you are logged into your QR2id Account. You can even set any of your QR2id Codes to send you an email whenever it is scanned. However, we encourage you to actively review your QR2id Code scan activity and report anything suspicious to YWxlcnRAUVIyaWQuY29t.

*ICE*/Emergency Information

QR2id allows you to make certain information available to only authorised emergency services personnel - referred to as *ICE* (*In-Case-of-Emergency*) information. You are in full control over what information, if any, you want to be available in such circumstances where it may assist emergency services.

The benefits of having *ICE*/Emergency information available through your QR2id Codes are clear, should the unthinkable occur and you are unable to communicate with emergency personnel for yourself. A QR2id Sticker on your bike helmet or a QR2id Label on your jacket could provide time critical access to potentially life saving information and details for contacting people who need to know about your situation.

The process of adding *ICE*/Emergency information is guided by a form that includes typical information you may want to make available, but you can add any information you wish. Each piece of information you add to an *ICE* Information Set is encrypted in the QR2id database for your protection. The decision about what to include is entirely yours and you can add, update or remove information at any time through your QR2id account. However, the possibility of identity theft is a very real consideration whenever you share any information with any 3rd Party. While you can include whatever you want to be sent to emergency services personnel, we strongly recommend that you DO NOT include comprehensive personal details in your *ICE*/Emergency information.

The things that are important include are:

  • Your legal name
  • Significant medical conditions
  • Allergies
  • Medications
  • Next of Kin / someone to contact in case of an emergency (and their contact phone number)

The things that you might also like to add that may be of assistance, include:

  • Your preferred name
  • Month/Year of birth
  • Medical directives
  • Employer's company name / your position

Unless you have a specific need to do so, you should not include Driver's Licence, Passport or similar details.

Families can set up more than one set of *ICE*/Emergency information to allow different information to be available for separate QR2id Codes (e.g. on Bicycles, bike helmets, car keys, etc.). When a QR2id Code is shared between family members, multiple sets of *ICE*/Emergency information can be set on the one QR2id Code (e.g. on a caravan, boat or trailer).

In order to protect the privacy of the QR2id Code owners, yet ensure that potentially life saving information is available to bona fide emergency services personnel, Amtac maintains a register of email domains applicable to emergency services organisations. Only email addresses from the register of domains can be used. This means that private email addresses, such as xyz@gmail.com, cannot be used.

Provided that the Official Email Address entered on the request form is in the QR2id register, the available information (as nominated by the QR2id Code Owner) will be sent to that address immediately the form is submitted. The QR2id Mail Server will initially attempt to send the information using TLS (encrypted), but if the receiving email server does not support a TLS, it will fall back to a standard connection to avoid compromising legitimate access to the information.

Note: As the QR2id Account owner, you will always receive a copy of any email sent to authorised emergency personnel requesting your *ICE*/Emergency information.
